BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Senior Sandy Acosta (Lawrence, Mass.) notched six kills and a pair of solo blocks to lead Anna Maria to a 3-0 non-league college volleyball victory over Massachusetts Maritime Thursday evening by game scores of 25-18, 25-23 and 25-11 in a match played at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center.

Freshman Courtney Smith (Southington, Conn.) added five kills in the triumph for the visiting Amcats (1-3), who also received four kills and four service aces from freshman Alyssa Haberman (Boca Raton, Fla.) as well as four kills and 20 set assists from freshman Samantha Parker (Athol, Mass.).  Freshman Brianna LaRegina (Troy, N.Y.) collected four kills as well for Anna Maria, which also received four digs and a pair of kills from junior Alexandra Rodriguez (Southbridge, Mass.).

Freshman Emily Calnan (Hingham, Mass.) notched six kills and a pair of solo blocks in her collegiate debut in the season-opening setback for the host Buccaneers (0-1), who also received five kills and seven digs from senior Alex Burgess-Chrost (Leominster, Mass.).  Sophomore Meghan Weir (North Andover, Mass.) added three kills and three digs for Massachusetts Maritime, which received a combined 16 set assists from sophomore Deb Langley (Abington, Mass.) and freshman Kelsey Black (Plympton, Mass.) as well as five digs from junior Michaela Garrity (Tiverton, R.I.).

Massachusetts Maritime travels to Gorham, Maine on Saturday afternoon to take on Curry and host Southern Maine in a non-league tri-match that begins at 1:00 p.m., while Anna Maria will be idle until Tuesday evening when the Amcats head to Nashua, N.H. to take on Daniel Webster in a non-league contest that begins at 7:00 p.m.
