Men's Lacrosse: Buccaneers Defeat Warriors in Conference Play at Home

BUZZARDS BAY, MA -- Maritime hosted East Conn on Wednesday in Little East Conference play. Coming in to the game the Bucs were 2-2 in conference while the Warriors sat a spot above them at 3-2. At the end of sixty minutes of play, the Bucs sit atop East Conn after a 15-10 win to move to 3-2 in conference play.

How It Happened

With 25 total goals, the game between the Bucs and Warriors moved at a brisk pace throughout the 60 minutes of play. In the first quarter, Maritime scored first at 13:30 on Lamattina's first. East Conn followed that with two goals of their own to take a 2-1 lead. In the final eight minutes of the first, the Bucs scored three times to take back the lead, 4-2, at the end of the first.

Maritime extended their unanswered run to five goals in the second, scoring two in the first 1:29 of the quarter, both from Maida who had now scored the last three goals for the Bucs. Maritime led East Conn with 13:31 left before the half, 6-2. The Warriors got one back on a Rene goal which was followed by two from Maritime. With 11:26 left in the half Maritime led 8-3. In the final 10 minutes of the second, the Warriors outscored the Buccaneers 3-2. Kennedy scored with 9:41, Maritime got goals from Coolahan and Lamattina within seven seconds of each other, and East Conn closed out the quarter with two goals to pull within four, 10-6, at the break.

To start the second half, East Conn scored twice to pull within two goals. Up 10-8 and having surrendered two unanswered goals, Maritime scored two of their own within a minute at 4:03 and 3:21 to retake a four-goal, 12-8, advantage at the end of the third.

Maritime controlled much of the fourth quarter, slowing down the pace and keeping the Warriors from breaking away as they had a number of their goals in the game. East Conn did open the fourth with a goal at 12:24 from Kennedy. Maritime answered 20 seconds later on a Kosiewicz score. Maida and Coolahan went on to score two more over the next four minutes to make it 15-9. Down six and running out of opportunities, the Warriors got one back from Appolon with 1:33 left in regulation. The Bucs took the ball and controlled it in their offensive end for the remainder of the game to secure their third Little East win of the season, their fifth overall, 15-10 over the Warriors.
