Men's Lacrosse: Bucs Drop Home Opener to Colonels

BUZZARDS BAY, MA -- The Buccaneers welcomed Curry College to Clean Harbors Stadium on Saturday morning for the team's 2022 home opener. The Buccaneers took an early lead but were unable to hold the lead and dropped the game 9-5 to the Colonels.

  • Jack Dacey scored a game-high five goals for the Colonels.
  • Nick Perfetuo, Sam Nielsen, Cormac Kline, and Brody Dalzell each scored a goal in the win.
  • Dacey also led the game in assists with two. Neilsen, Dalzell, Robbie Tartaglia, Anthony Lewis, and Josh Hunter each recorded an assist.
  • Three players picked up four ground balls in the game to lead the Colonels. 
  • Zach Mozzer caused a game-high four turnovers in the game. 
  • Curry picked up 33 ground balls in the game and converted 15 of their 25 clear attempts while also winning 9 of 18 faceoffs.

How It Happened

Maritime scored first midway through the first on an unassisted Lynch goal. Two minutes later, Kline scored for Curry to even the game at 1-1. 

In the second quarter, Curry rattle off four straight goals to make it five unaswered going back to first quarter. With just under two minutes in the quarter the Colonels led 5-1. Maritime scored their second goal of the game with 1:28 left before the half. At the break, Curry led their hosts 5-2. 

To start the third, Maritime pulled within two on a Coolahan goal from Lawson. For a while it looked like the Bucs were going to climb back in to the game then the Colonels went on to score three in a row to take an 8-3 lead with four minutes left in the third. Jones went on to net his second of the game on a pass from Raei to cut the lead in half, 8-4, with three minutes left in the quarter. With under a minute left in the third, Dacey scored again to make it 9-4 going in to the fourth.

The Curry defense took over the game in the fourth allowing just one goal to Cameron and the Bucs witn 9:19 on the clock. The Colonels went scoreless in the quarter and took a 9-5 win when all was said and done.

The Buccaneers will host Norwich University on Wednesday, March 9th at 7pm at Clean Harbors Stadium.
