How It Happened

The Buccaneers scored early and often in their second ever Little East Conference Game. Maritime scored four times in the first quarter across a nine-minute period. With the Bucs defense keeping the Huskies off the board, the Bucs led the game 4-0 at the end of one.

In the second quarter, it was mostly Buccaneers once again. They scored four times in the first nine minutes of the quarter to take an 8-0 lead with just over six minutes left in the half. With 3:28 left in the quarter, Southern Maine got on the board on a Nussinow score to make it 8-1. Each team would add another goal in the quarter from Jack Iversen and James The Bucs led the game 9-2 at the end of the half.

In the third, the Bucs scored seven more times and held the Huskies to just two goals. Southern Maine opened the scoring 45 seconds into the quarter. Maritime then rattled off three goals of their own to make the score 12-3. USM scored again with 6:34 on the clock to cut the deficit to eight. Over the final six minutes of the third, including three goals in less than a minute, the Bucs scored four times to take a 12-goal, 16-4 lead.

In the fourth, to begin the quarter, the Bucs extended their scoring run to six goals with two scores from Maida. Down 18-4, Southern Maine scored four of the final five goals of the game. That wouldn't be enough for the Huskies as the Bucs went on to win by 11, 19-8, to win their first LEC game and move to 3-6 on the season.
