Men's Lacrosse: Buccaneers Can't Hold Seahawks off in Loss
NEWPORT, R.I. -- Maritime took to the road for their third game in a row on Saturday, heading to Rhode Island to take on Salve Regina. The Buccaneers held a lead late in the third and behind seven fourth quarter goals for the Seahawks, Salve came back to win, 16-10.

- The Seahawks picked up 22 ground balls, were successful on 10 of 16 clears, won 20 of 29 faceoffs and took a total of 48 shots in the win.
How It Happened
With 26 total goals in the game, three of the four quarters saw five or more goals scored. In the first, Salve opened the scoring two minutes in on Cooney's first. Maida and Iversen then scored twice for the Bucs to give Maritime an early 2-1 advantage. The Seahawks went on to score two of their own to take a 3-2 lead halfway through the first. Maritime matched the two from Salve with two of their own as Kosiewicz and Lamattina scored to retake the lead 4-3. The 'Hawks scored the final goal of the quarter with three minutes left to knot the score at 4-4 at the end of 15 minutes of play.
In the second, the lowest scoring quarter of the game, the Buccaneers went on a three-goal run in the first half of the quarter to take a 7-4 lead with seven minutes to play before the half. Salve got one back on a Laundry goal with 5:40 on the clock. The teams went to the break with the Bucs leading 7-5.
In the third, and the second half overall, the Seahawks took the momentum they hadn't had since the end of the first and ran with it. Scoring the first two goals on the third they tied the game at 7-7. Cameron then scored for the Bucs to retake the lead, 8-7. Then, down a man, Salve tied the game back up at eights and took the lead six minutes later, 9-8, on a McAllister goal. Maritime scored with just over two minutes left in the third quarter to tie the score at nine apiece.
Maritime took a lead right at the beginning of the fourth, 10-9. They held that lead for almost four minutes before a Salve goal that tied the score once again. Then, over a four-minute period, the Seahawks scored six unanswered goals to take a 16-10 lead. In the final three minutes, the host defense held off the Bucs to take the win, 16-10.
