NEWTON, Mass. --  Senior Matt Savage (Peabody, Mass.) netted five goals and an assist for six points to lead Mount Ida to a 13-4 non-league college men’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Monday afternoon at Mount Ida Stadium.

Savage netted four markers in the opening 27-plus minutes of play as the host Mustangs (7-7) jumped out to a 6-0 advantage at the break in scoring the first seven goals overall in the contest.  The visiting Buccaneers (2-11) closed back to within 9-3 midway through the third stanza by scoring three times in a 6:49 span, the last by senior Chris Davis (Cohasset, Mass.) with 7:04 remaining in the quarter, but Mount Ida netted the next four markers of the match, including three in a 2:19 span midway through the fourth quarter, to ice its triumph.

Sophomore Nick Yacuzzi (Worcester, Mass.) added a pair of tallies and an assist in the win for the Mustangs, who also received a pair of goals from senior Derek Broughton (Peabody, Mass.) as well as a goal and assist off the stick of junior Ian Saunders (Glens Falls, N.Y.).  Sophomore Nick Maurais (Peabody, Mass.) and freshmen Zach Rosen (East Greenwich, R.I.) and Zach Davis (Old Lyme, Conn.) also tallied on the day for the hosts, who received two assists each from seniors Paul Battapaglia (Clinton, Conn.) and Dan Harrington (Westford, Mass.) as well as single helpers off the stick of sophomore Mike Durand (Londonderry, N.H.).

Senior Jake Bickley (Wilbraham, Mass.) netted a pair of goals and an assist for three points in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a goal off the stick of junior Will Doucette (Manchester, Mass.) to go with Davis’s tally.

Junior James McAllister (Smithfield, R.I.) picked up the win in goal for Mount Ida with 12 saves over the first 56 minutes of action, as sophomore Chandler Webb (Newton, Mass.) made a pair of stops in the final four minutes for the hosts.  Freshman Jack Murphy (Cohasset, Mass.) made 18 saves in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, as fellow freshman Dan Bourque (Reading, Mass.) made one stop in the final minute of play for the visitors.  The Mustangs outshot the Buccaneers by a 43-23 margin for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Wheelock in a non-league outing on Thursday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Mount Ida hosts Lasell in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match on Wednesday afternoon at Mount Ida Stadium beginning at 4:00 p.m.
