Murphy Earns Spot On 2011 Pilgrim Lacrosse League All-Conference Squad, Seven Buccaneers Earn All-Academic Accolades

Buzzards Bay, Mass. --  Massachusetts Maritime freshman goalie Jack Murphy was named to the 2011 Pilgrim Lacrosse League second team all-conference squad in a vote by the league’s six coaches, while he and six of his Buccaneer teammates were recognized for their work in the classroom with selection to the league’s 2011 All-Academic team.

A native of Cohasset, Mass. and a graduate of Cohasset High School, Murphy started 15 of 16 matches in net for Head Coach Rory Deegan’s crew, as he posted an 11.09 goals against average to go with 195 saves for a .575 saves percentage while collecting 50 ground balls and causing 10 turnovers.  Murphy, who played 779 of a possible 1,020 minutes in the Buccaneer cage, also registered a goal and an assist on offensive for Massachusetts Maritime during his rookie campaign.

Murphy was one of seven Buccaneers honored with selection to the Pilgrim Lacrosse League All-Academic team, as student-athletes who have achieved a minimum 3.25 grade point average and are significant contributors are eligible for selection.  Massachusetts Maritime placed the second highest number of individuals on this year’s squad, and Murphy was joined on the team by seniors Craig Nichols (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) and Mark Robinson (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug Regional), junior Matt Adam (Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich), sophomores James Burns (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) and Kevin Flanigan (Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) as well as fellow freshman Daniel Sibbald (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth).

The Buccaneers posted four overall victories in Deegan’s first season at the helm, including a shutout triumph over Wheelock to go with wins over Emerson, Becker and Regis.
