BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Senior Thomas Cykana (Minnetonka, Minn.) scored four goals and added an assist for five points to lead Babson to a 14-5 victory over Massachusetts Maritime in the Pilgrim Lacrosse League regular season finale for both squads Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The visiting Beavers (9-7, 4-1 Pilgrim) overcame a 3-2 first quarter deficit with a pair of tallies from Cykana and junior Tom Mallon (Manhasset, N.Y.) in a 20 second span to take a 4-3 advantage after the opening 15 minutes of play, as that began a string of 12 unanswered Babson goals over a 44-minute span.  The Beavers extended their edge to 8-3 at the break and added five more tallies in the third quarter, including a pair off the stick of senior Armand Wilson (Fairfield, Conn.), to take a 13-3 cushion into the final stanza and claim second place in the final league standings.

Wilson finished with a hat trick and two assists for five points in the triumph for Babson, which also received a tally and four helpers off the stick of sophomore Alex Patinkin (Providence, R.I.) as well as a pair of markers from Mallon.  Junior Cam Caruso (St. Charles, Ill.) chipped in with a goal and two assists for the winners, who also received a marker and helper from sophomore Mike Griffin (Duxbury, Mass.) as well as single goals off the sticks of senior Andrew Packer (Hudson, Ohio) and sophomore Jamie Schmidt (Shelburne, Vt.).

Senior Jake Bickley (Wilbraham, Mass.) netted a pair of goals in the setback for the host Buccaneers (4-13, 0-5 Pilgrim), who took a pair of early one goal leads in the contest.  Junior Will Doucette (Manchester, Mass.) added a marker and a helper on the day for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received tallies from junior Matt White (Westwood, Mass.) and freshman Chris Bergau (Merritt Island, Fla.).  Senior Craig Nichols (Marshfield, Mass.) chipped in with a pair of assists for the hosts, who also received a helper from fellow senior Chris Davis (Cohasset, Mass.).

Sophomore James Whalen (Westwood, Mass.) picked up the win in goal with six first half saves for Babson, while fellow sophomore Ryan Lee (Wallingford, Conn.) made one third quarter stop for the visitors.  Freshman Jack Murphy (Cohasset, Mass.) made 18 saves over the first three quarters of play in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which received five fourth quarter stops from fellow freshman Paul Painten (Walpole, Mass.) as the Beavers outshot the Buccaneers by a 49-22 margin for the match.

Babson will host either MIT, Wheaton or Clark in semi-final round play of the 2011 Pilgrim Lacrosse League Championships on Wednesday in Babson Park, Mass.
