BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Senior Dan Piemont (Summit, N.J.) netted five goals to lead MIT to an 8-7 Pilgraim Lacrosse League victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The visiting Engineers (4-3, 2-0 Pilgrim) snapped a 4-4 halftime deadlock with three unanswered goals, including a pair off the stick of Piemont, in the first 9:08 after intermission, but the host Buccaneers (2-9, 0-2 Pilgrim) climbed back to within one at 7-6 on markers by senior Craig Nichols (Marshfield, Mass.) and junior Matt White (Westwood, Mass.), the latter coming with 8:20 to play in the contest.  Piemont completed his scoring with his second man-up tally of the day with 4:47 to play to give MIT an 8-6 cushion, but senior Jake Bickley’s (Wilbraham, Mass.) goal with 1:49 remaining again sliced Massachusetts Maritime’s deficit to one.  The Buccaneers forced an Engineer turnover with 40 seconds to play but were unable to convert the tying marker, as the visitors ran out the clock to post their triumph.

Seniors Alex Andrzejewski (Powell, Ohio) and Nick Sisler (Waterbury Center, Vt.) each netted a goal and assist in the triumph for MIT, which also received a marker from junior Bryan Beller (Dix Hills, N.Y.) as well as single helpers off the sticks of seniors John Kucharczyk (Manhasset, N.Y.) and Justin Myers (Highland Falls, N.Y.).  Nichols led the way with a pair of goals and three assists for five points in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received two goals each from Bickley and fellow senior Ryan Linn (Bourne, Mass.) as well as single assists off the sticks of seniors Chris Davis (Cohasset, Mass.) and Max Wigglesworth (Beverly, Mass.).

Sophomore Christopher Rullan (Wexford, Pa.) picked up the win in goal for MIT with a 16-save effort, while freshman Jack Murphy (Cohasset, Mass.) made 12 stops in net for Massachusetts Maritime as the Buccaneers outshot the Engineers by a 29-28 margin for the match.

Massachusetts Maritime will be idle until next Saturday evening when the Buccaneers host Clark in a Pilgrim Lacrosse League outing at Clean Harbors Stadium that begins at 7:00 p.m., while MIT heads to Salem, Mass. on Tuesday afternoon to take on Salem State in a non-league match that begins at 4:00 p.m.
