BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Junior Chris Johnson (Amherst, Mass.) netted a hat trick to lead Clark to a 7-3 Pilgrim Lacrosse League victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The visiting Cougars (5-7, 1-2 Pilgrim) netted four first quarter goals, including a pair of man-up markers off the stick of Johnson, to take a 4-0 lead after 15 minutes of play, but the host Buccaneers (2-10, 0-3 Pilgrim) closed back to within three on a pair of occasions in the middle stanza on tallies by senior Chris Davis (Cohasset, Mass.) and sophomore James Burns (Duxbury, Mass.).  Freshman Jonah Bass’ (Amherst, Mass.) second goal of the evening with 2:12 remaining in the half extended Clark’s lead to 6-2 at the break, and Johnson completed his hat trick just 1:05 after intermission to close out the visitors’ scoring in what turned into a defensive contest for most of the remaining 28 minutes of play.

Senior Eugene Arsenault (South Portland, Maine) added a goal and two assists in the victory for Clark, which also received a marker off the stick of senior Danny Heelan (Avon, Conn.) as well as single helpers from junior Phil Winslow (Providence, R.I.) and freshman Tim Day (Hallowell, Maine).  Junior Will Doucette (Manchester, Mass.) collected a goal and an assist in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received an assist off the stick of senior Jake Bickley (Wilbraham, Mass.).
