Men's Lacrosse Student-Athletes Give Precious Gift During Holiday Season

Members of the Massachusetts Maritime men’s lacrosse team recently gave a very precious gift during this Holiday season that will impact the lives of countless children in the region.

A total of 37 members of Head Coach Rory Deegan’s squad donated one pint of blood each to Children’s Hospital of Boston, and one pint helps up to four children, meaning that nearly 150 young lives will be affected by the generosity of the Buccaneers.

“It was just a tremendously thoughtful and helpful act to those in need,” Deegan, who is in his first season as Massachusetts Maritime’s mentor, said of his team.  “It really served as a reminder to our team and to all of us that we are very fortunate to be in good health, and giving back to the community reinforces that reminder.”

Buccaneer student-athletes have reached out in numerous ways to the community during this Holiday season, including members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, accompanied by Senior Woman’s Administrator Linda Letourneau and Director of Athletics Bob Corradi, visiting an area nursing home in Wareham to deliver presents and warm greetings as well as a few Christmas carols along the way.

“Buccaneer Pride isn’t just something that is limited to competition—pride in being part of the community and making a difference is something our student-athletes always strive to achieve,” Corradi said.

There are both young and old around the region that will undoubtedly share in that pride.
