PORTLAND, Maine --  Senior Christopher Keiley (Holliston, Mass.) netted a hat trick as Maine Maritime overcame a three-goal fourth quarter deficit by scoring seven times in the final 15 minutes of play to post a 10-9 non-league college men’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Fitzpatrick Stadium.

The Mariners (1-1) trailed 6-3 after three quarters of action before scoring five unanswered markers over the first 7:30 of the final period to take an 8-6 lead, and after senior Jake Bickley’s (Wilbraham, Mass.) goal with 5:15 to play sliced the Buccaneers’ (1-5) deficit to 8-7, tallies off the sticks of senior Toddy Murphy (Middlesex, Vt.) and junior Andrew DiSalvo (Glastonbury, Conn.) gave Maine Maritime a 10-7 edge with 2:57 remaining.  Bickley and junior Will Doucette (Manchester, Mass.) netted goals just 19 seconds apart in the final minute of action to once again slice Massachusetts Maritime’s deficit to one, but the Mariners forced a turnover in the closing seconds and ran out the clock to post the Admiral’s Cup triumph.

DiSalvo and Murphy each finished with a pair of goals and an assist for three points in the victory for Maine Maritime, which also received a goal and assist each from junior Brian Corain (Berwick, Maine) and sophomore Tom Houle (Manchester, N.H.).  Junior Nick Lund (Alfred, Maine) chipped in with a marker for the Mariners, who also received an assist off the stick of senior Wade Mondoux (North Berwick, Maine).

Bickley finished with a hat trick and an assist for four points in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a pair of markers and a helper from senior Ryan Linn (Bourne, Mass.) as well as two goals from Doucette.  Senior Craig Nichols (Marshfield, Mass.) and sophomore Alex Katapodis (Wrentham, Mass.) added tallies in the setback as well for the Buccaneers.

Junior Erik Milles (Bangor, Maine) picked up the win in goal for Maine Maritime with a nine-save effort, while freshmen Jack Murphy (Cohasset, Mass.) and Paul Painten (Walpole, Mass.) combined for 11 stops in net for Massachusetts Maritime as the Mariners outshot the Buccaneers by a 30-29 margin for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Becker on Tuesday evening in a non-league outing on Tuesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Maine Maritime hosts Thomas in a North Atlantic Conference clash next Saturday afternoon in Castine, Maine beginning at 1:00 p.m.
