Klangos Notches 17 Kills As Volleyball Splits Tri-Match With Worcester State, Pine Manor

WORCESTER, Mass. --  Senior Charleen Klangos (Lowell, Mass.) registered 14 kills and six digs to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 3-0 non-league college volleyball victory over Pine Manor and a split of a tri-match played at Worcester State’s Lancer Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.  In the opening contest, sophomore Emily Carens (Northboro, Mass.) collected 16 kills to lead the host Lancers to a 3-0 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference triumph over the Buccaneers.

 

Sophomore Jennifer Roy (Attleboro, Mass.) added 10 kills in Massachusetts Maritime’s (6-19, 0-4 MASCAC) 25-15, 25-21, 25-20 victory over Pine Manor (2-19), as the Buccaneers completed a five-match season sweep of the Gators with the result.  Senior Meaghan Brain (Hanson, Mass.) and freshman Marie Harrison (Weymouth, Mass.) each had three kills and combined for 17 digs for the winners, who also received 23 set assists and four digs from senior Emma Ethier (Norton, Mass.) to go along with a combined 17 digs from freshman Christina Ruggeri (Bourne, Mass.) and Michelle Sheehan (Attleboro, Mass.).

 

Freshman Viyanni Johnson (Las Vegas, Nev.) collected 11 kills and eight digs in the setback for Pine Manor, which also received four kills and four digs from freshman Keisha Hadorn (Yokosuka, Japan).  Junior Ashley Whiteshield (Seward, Ak.) added 16 set assists, six service aces and five digs for the Gators, while freshman Alexa Leon (El Centro, Calif.) notched 15 digs and three kills.

 

Freshman Sarah Powers (Hopkinton, Mass.) recorded eight kills in Worcester State’s (11-13, 2-2 MASCAC) opening 25-9, 25-13, 25-10 triumph over Massachusetts Maritime, as the Lancers also received 11 digs and six kills from sophomore Caleigh Davis (Acushnet, Mass.).  Sophomore Alexandra Nolan (Melrose, Mass.) chipped in with 27 set assists and seven digs for the hosts, who also received 15 digs from junior Katrina Kangwijaya (Dunstable, Mass.).  Klangos and Brain each posted three kills and combined for 10 digs in the opening setback for the Buccaneers, who also received 10 digs from Harrison, six set assists from Ethier and a combined 13 digs from Ruggeri and Sheehan in the MASCAC match.

 

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Franklin, Mass. on Monday evening to take on Dean in a non-league outing at 7:00 p.m., while Worcester State travels to North Adams, Mass. on Wednesday evening to square off with MCLA in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference clash beginning at 7:00 p.m.  Pine Manor will be idle until next Saturday, October 22nd when the Gators head to Franklin, Mass. for a non-league doubleheader with Dean that begins at 1:00 p.m.
