WORCESTER, Mass. --  The Massachusetts Maritime volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-0 non-league decisions to host WPI and Eastern Nazarene in a tri-match played Saturday afternoon at Harrington Auditorium.

 

Junior Ana Kaczowka (Seekonk, Mass.) registered eight kills and three service aces in the host Engineers’ (17-4) 25-9, 25-5, 25-13 opening victory over the Buccaneers (4-17), as junior Brooke Klepper (Miami Beach, Fla.) chipped in with seven kills in the triumph.  Senior Shay Feeley (Franklin, Mass.) and sophomore Azita Bakhtyari (Andover, Mass.) combined for 26 set assists and nine digs for WPI, which also received nine digs from junior Kelly Rathje (Scituate, Mass.).

 

Freshman Christina Ruggeri (Bourne, Mass.) notched seven digs and three kills in the opener for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received three kills from senior Meaghan Brain (Hanson, Mass.).  Freshman Michelle Sheehan (Attleboro, Mass.) collected 11 set assists for the Buccaneers, who also received 10 digs from senior Emma Ethier (Norton, Mass.) and seven digs from sophomore Jenelle Miller (Scituate, Mass.).

 

Senior Joanna Joseph (Brockton, Mass.) recorded seven kills and three digs in a 25-18, 25-20, 25-18 nightcap win for Eastern Nazarene (4-13), which also received six kills from freshman Courtney McCarthy (Merrimack, N.H.).  Junior Lauryl Berger (Laurel, Del.) added 18 set assists for the Lions, who also received a combined 25 digs from junior Kayla Dean (Lansdale, Pa.) and sophomore Monica Ly (Quincy, Mass.).

 

Freshman Marie Harrison (Weymouth, Mass.) registered six kills and six digs in the second match setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received five kills each from Brain and sophomore Jennifer Roy (Attleboro, Mass.).  Sheehan chipped in with 16 set assists, nine digs and a pair of service aces for the Buccaneers, which also received 13 digs from Ruggeri and a career-best 11 digs from Miller.

 

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Salem State and Dean in a tri-match on Monday afternoon at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center beginning at Noon, while WPI will be idle until next Saturday, October 15th when the Engineers head to Hartford, Conn. for a non-league tri-match with host Trinity and Rhode Island College that begins at 11:00 a.m.  Eastern Nazarene hosts Nichols in a Commonwealth Coast Conference clash on Tuesday evening in Quincy, Mass. beginning at 7:00 p.m.
