BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Senior Cheyenne Melanson (Sandown, N.H.) notched 11 kills as Becker overcame a 2-1 deficit to post a 3-2 non-league college volleyball victory over Massachusetts Maritime Tuesday evening at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center.

 

The visiting Hawks (5-6) dropped a 25-21 first set decision before evening matters with a 25-15 win in the second frame, but the host Buccaneers (1-11) regained the advantage by grabbing a 25-23 third set triumph.  Becker forced the deciding set with a 25-18 victory in the fourth stanza, and the visitors erased an early three-point deficit to claim the match with a 15-9 fifth set win.

 

Sophomore Kayla Dupree (North Bergen, N.J.) added eight kills and three services aces for the Hawks, who also received six kills and three service aces from senior Marissa Turner (Coventry, R.I.).  Junior Charlene Landry (Gorham, Maine) collected 12 set assists, nine service aces, nine digs and five kills for Becker, which also received 14 set assists, five digs and four kills from freshman Morgan Gould (North Attleboro, Mass.) to go with 18 digs from sophomore Brittney Bullis (Stafford, Va.).

 

Senior Charleen Klangos (Lowell, Mass.) posted a double-double effort of 16 kills, 15 digs and six service aces in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a career-best double-double performance of 14 kills, 13 digs, three service aces and three set assists from freshman Marie Harrison (Weymouth, Mass.).  Freshman Michelle Sheehan (Attleboro, Mass.) chipped in with 19 set assists, 10 digs and four kills for the Buccaneers, who also received six kills and three digs from senior Meaghan Brain (Hanson, Mass.).  Senior Emma Ethier (Norton, Mass.) notched 17 set assists and 10 digs on the night for the hosts, who also collected 25 digs from freshman Christina Ruggeri (Bourne, Mass.).

 

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Franklin, Mass. on Thursday evening to take on Dean in a non-league outing that begins at 7:00 p.m., while Becker hosts UMass Dartmouth in a non-league match on Thursday evening in Leicester, Mass. that also begins at 7:00 p.m.
