Roy Notches 15 Kills As Volleyball Matches School Single-Season Win Mark With 3-2 Victory At Dean

FRANKLIN, Mass. --  Sophomore Jennifer Roy (Attleboro, Mass.) notched 15 kills and three block solos to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 3-2 non-league college volleyball victory over Dean Monday evening by game scores of 25-12, 27-29, 25-23, 23-25 and 15-13 in a match played at Pieri Gymnasium.

 

Senior Charleen Klangos (Lowell, Mass.) added a double-double effort of 16 digs, 14 kills and three service aces for the visiting Buccaneers (7-19), who tied the school single-season record for victories that was first set in 1993 and matched in 1999.  Freshman Marie Harrison (Weymouth, Mass.) added a career-high 22 digs, eight kills and three service aces for the winners, who also received nine digs, six kills and four service aces from senior Meaghan Brain (Hanson, Mass.).  Senior Emma Ethier (Norton, Mass.) collected 37 set assists, 11 digs and two kills for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received 20 digs and three kills from freshman Christina Ruggeri (Bourne, Mass.) as well as seven digs and a pair of kills from freshman Michelle Sheehan (Attleboro, Mass.)

 

Sophomore Kaitlyn Anderson (Clinton, Conn.) matched Roy’s game-high total with 15 kills and eight digs in the setback for the host Bulldogs (4-13), who also received 16 digs and 11 kills from freshman Yarelis Luciano (New Britain, Conn.).  Sophomore Kiara Castro (Queens, N.Y.) chipped in with 31 set assists and 17 digs for Dean, which also received 26 digs from freshman Samantha Mulcahy (Taunton, Mass.), 20 digs from freshman Megan Kinney (Hanover, Mass.) and seven kills from freshman Madison Felton (East Orange, N.J.).  The win was the Buccaneers’ second over the Bulldogs in a week’s time, as Massachusetts Maritime notched a 3-0 triumph over Dean in the first-ever meeting between the two schools last Monday afternoon in Buzzards Bay.

 

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Bridgewater State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference outing on Wednesday evening at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Dean hosts Mitchell in a non-league match on Wednesday evening at Pieri Gymnasium that also begins at 7:00 p.m.
