Klangos Collects 10 Kills, Sheehan Adds 10 Set Assists As Volleyball Drops 3-0 Home Opener To Nichols

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Freshman J’ena Baker (Rockledge, Fla.) notched 12 kills and 16 digs as Nichols captured its first victory in program history with a 3-0 non-league college volleyball triumph over Massachusetts Maritime by game scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-17 in a match played Thursday evening at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center.

 

Sophomore Sabrina Boermeester (South Billerica, Mass.) added seven kills in the historic win for the visiting Bison (1-2), who are playing their inaugural collegiate campaign this fall.  Freshman Megan Gardner (South Deerfield, Mass.) chipped in with three kills for Nichols, which also received 26 set assists and five digs from sophomore Moriah Burns (Holland, Mass.).  Senior Monica Pucko (Gardner, Mass.) collected 14 digs and two service aces for the visitors, who also received 12 digs from freshman Jayla Simmons (Rockledge, Fla.).

 

Senior Charleen Klangos (Lowell, Mass.) posted 10 kills and seven digs in the setback for the host Buccaneers (0-4), who also received six kills from sophomore Jennifer Roy (Attleboro, Mass.) to go with 10 set assists, four kills and three digs from freshman Michelle Sheehan (Attleboro, Mass.).  Freshman Christina Ruggeri (Bourne, Mass.) added 14 digs for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received 10 digs and a pair of kills from freshman Marie Harrison (Weymouth, Mass.).

 

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Curry and Bay Path in a non-league tri-match on Saturday morning at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center beginning at 11:00 a.m., while Nichols hosts Daniel Webster in a non-league outing on Monday afternoon in Dudley, Mass. that begins at 4:00 p.m.
