BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Freshman Chloe Roy (West Springfield, Mass.) notched a combined 13 kills to lead Salem State to a sweep of a college volleyball tri-match from Massachusetts Maritime and Dean Monday afternoon at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center, as the host Buccaneers notched a 3-0 over the Bulldogs in the nightcap.

 

Roy recorded nine kills in the Vikings (6-16, 1-3 MASCAC) 25-18, 25-19, 25-11 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference triumph over Massachusetts Maritime (5-18, 0-3 MASCAC), as Salem State also received seven kills from junior Olivia Summit (Peabody, Mass.).  Freshman Sara Corey (Whately, Mass.) chipped in with five kills for the Vikings, who also received a combined 24 digs from junior Hannah Mullarkey (Salem, Mass.) and sophomore Samantha Chaisson (Duxbury, Mass.) as well as a combined 21 set assists from sophomore Mackenzie Salls (Turners Falls, Mass.) and freshman Morgan Adams (Scotia, N.Y.).  Seniors Meaghan Brain (Hanson, Mass.) and Charleen Klangos (Lowell, Mass.) posted four kills each in the opening setback for the Buccaneers, who also received 13 set assists and eight digs from senior Emma Ethier (Norton, Mass.) to go with 21 digs from freshman Christina Ruggeri (Bourne, Mass.).

 

Freshman Emily Hennessy (Hanover, Mass.) notched six kills in Salem State’s 25-17, 25-18, 25-12 triumph over Dean (3-8) in the middle match, as Roy, Summit and freshman Sara LaFreniere (Becket, Mass.) each added four kills for the winners.  Adams and Salls combined for 22 set assists for the Vikings, who also received 12 digs from Mullarkey.  Sophomore Kaitlyn Anderson (Clinton, Conn.) paced the Bulldogs in six kills in their opening setback, while sophomore Kiara Castro (Queens, N.Y.) and freshman Samantha Mulcahy (Taunton, Mass.) added 10 set assists and 17 digs, respectively.

 

Klangos recorded a double-double effort of 15 kills and 13 digs in Massachusetts Maritime’s 25-18, 25-14, 25-19 nightcap victory over Dean, as the hosts have now posted their highest single-season win total in 12 years with the triumph.  Freshman Marie Harrison (Weymouth, Mass.) chipped in with nine kills and 10 digs for the Buccaneers, who also received nine kills from sophomore Jennifer Roy (Attleboro, Mass.) as well as seven kills and five digs from Brain.  Ethier notched a career-high 34 set assists and 10 digs for the winners, who also received eight digs from freshman Michelle Sheehan (Attleboro, Mass.).  Anderson recorded 11 kills in the nightcap setback for the Bulldogs, who also received 15 set assists, five digs and three kills from Castro.  Mulcahy posted 13 digs and three kills in the second match for Dean, which also received seven digs and three kills from freshman Yarelis Luciano (New Britain, Conn.) as well as eight digs and four set assists from freshman Megan Kinney (Hanover, Mass.).

 

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Worcester, Mass. on Saturday afternoon for a tri-match with Worcester State and Pine Manor that begins at Noon, while Salem State hosts MCLA and Fitchburg State in tri-match play on Saturday afternoon in Salem, Mass. beginning at 1:00 p.m.  Dean hosts New Hampshire Technical Institute in a non-league outing on Wednesday evening in Franklin, Mass. at 7:00 p.m.
