Klangos Notches Three Kills, O'Connor Adds 11 Digs As Volleyball Drops MASCAC Opener To Worcester State

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Senior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, Mass.) notched nine kills and three service aces to lead Worcester State to a 3-0 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference volleyball victory over Massachusetts Maritime by game scores of 25-9, 25-7 and 25-9 in a league match played Tuesday evening at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center.

 

Sophomore Val Hoyle (Bridgewater, Mass.) added eight kills in the triumph for the visiting Lancers (7-2, 1-0 MASCAC), who also received a pair of kills and four digs from freshman Megan Rouillard (Barrington, N.H.).  Senior Amanda Lewis (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) collected 18 set assists and seven digs for Worcester State, which also received seven set assists and three service aces from freshman Alysia Pearce (Pepperell, Mass.) in posting a .407 attack percentage for the contest.

 

Junior Charleen Klangos (Lowell, Mass.) recorded three kills and four digs in the setback for the host Buccaneers (0-7, 0-1 MASCAC), who also received a pair of kills and three set assists from senior Deb Langley (Abington, Mass.).  Sophomore Stephanie O’Connor (Westwood, Mass.) added 11 digs for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a pair of digs from senior Meghan Weir (North Andover, Mass.).

 

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Throggs Neck, N.Y. on Saturday morning to take on SUNY-Maritime and Merchant Marine in opening round play of the Fifth Annual Maritime Classic beginning at 11:00 a.m., while Worcester State travels to Providence, R.I. on Thursday evening to square off with Rhode Island College in a non-league match that begins at 6:00 p.m.
