Brain, Klangos Combine For 11 Kills As Volleyball Drops 3-0 Decision At Pine Manor

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Senior Destiny Mann (Orlando, Fla.) notched 10 kills and five digs to lead Pine Manor to a 3-0 non-league college volleyball victory over Massachusetts Maritime by game scores of 27-25, 25-15 and 25-22 in a match played Wednesday evening on Brunelli Court.
Senior Phalonge Pierre (Boston, Mass.) added eight kills in the triumph for the host Gators (6-13), who also received four kills and eight digs from sophomore Susan Le (Lowell, Mass.) as well as four kills, five digs and three service aces from freshman Mary Owen (Houston, Tex.). Senior Natasia Franklin (Windsor, Conn.) added three kills for Pine Manor, which also received 18 set assists and five service aces from freshman Ashley Whiteshield (Seward, Ak.) in claiming its fourth win in the series between the two schools this season.
Sophomore Meaghan Brain (Hanson, Mass.) registered six kills in the setback for the visiting Buccaneers (0-16), who also received five kills, two service aces and 13 digs from junior Charleen Klangos (Lowell, Mass.). Senior Deb Langley (Abington, Mass.) added a pair of kills and eight digs for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received two kills each from senior Meghan Weir (North Andover, Mass.) and sophomore Melissa Harris (Scituate, Mass.) as well as four service aces from sophomore Cassidy Nice (Carver, Mass.). Sophomore Emma Ethier (Norton, Mass.) and freshman Becca Mello (Acushnet, Mass.) combined for eight set assists for the visitors, who will square off with Pine Manor for a fifth and final time on October 18th as part of a tri-match at Westfield State.
Massachusetts Maritime heads to Wenham, Mass. on Saturday morning to take on Castleton and host Gordon in a non-league tri-match that begins at 10:00 a.m., while Pine Manor travels to Salem, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to square off with Johnson State and host Salem State in a non-league tri-match beginning at 1:00 p.m.
