BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Sophomore Susan Le (Lowell, Mass.) notched 12 kills and 11 digs to lead Pine Manor to a sweep of a non-league college volleyball doubleheader from Massachusetts Maritime by identical 3-0 finals in matches played Saturday afternoon at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center.

 

Senior Natasia Franklin (Windsor, Conn.) recorded seven kills in the opening contest for the visiting Gators (2-6), who posted a 25-11, 26-24, 25-15 triumph to present first year Head Coach Samantha Slonski with her first career collegiate victory.  Le added six kills and six digs for Pine Manor, which also received five kills and six digs from senior Phalonge Pierre (Boston, Mass.) as well as four kills and eight digs from senior Destiny Mann (Orlando, Fla.).  Freshman Ashley Whiteshield (Seward, Ak.) collected 20 set assists and eight service aces as well for the visitors in the opening match.

 

Junior Emily Calnan (Hingham, Mass.) notched three kills and four service aces in the opening setback for the host Buccaneers (0-6), who also received three kills, five digs and a pair of service aces from senior Meghan Weir (North Andover, Mass.) and three kills from sophomore Meaghan Brain (Hanson, Mass.).  Senior Deb Langley (Abington, Mass.) chipped in with seven set assists, five digs and two kills for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received nine digs from sophomore Stephanie O’Connor (Westwood, Mass.).

 

Le, Pierre and Mann each had six kills in Pine Manor’s 25-16, 25-23, 25-21 nightcap win, as the trio also combined for 11 digs.  Franklin added five kills for the Gators, who also received four kills and six digs from freshman Mary Owen (Houston, Tex.) as well 23 set assists, 10 service aces, eight digs and three kills from Whiteshield.  Calnan collected five kills in the second match setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received four kills from Brain and five set assists, four digs and three kills from Langley.  Weir and junior Charleen Klangos (Lowell, Mass.) recorded six digs each for the Buccaneers, who also received 13 digs from O’Connor.

 

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Worcester State in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Tuesday evening at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Pine Manor heads to Nashua, N.H. on Tuesday evening to take on Daniel Webster in a non-league outing that also begins at 7:00 p.m.
