Langley, O'Shaughnessy Named As 2014 Buccaneer Volleyball Captains

As final preparations for the start of the 2014 Massachusetts Maritime volleyball season continue, veteran Head Coach Chris Ratches today announced that seniors Deb Langley and Lauren O’Shaughnessy will serve as co-captains for this fall’s Buccaneer campaign.

Langley, a native of Abington, Mass. and a graduate of South Shore Vocational Technical High School, will serve in the captain’s role for a second straight season, as she has been Massachusetts Maritime’s starting setter for the last three years.  Last fall, Langley led the Buccaneers with 138 set assists and 32 service aces while ranking second on the team in digs with 133.  O’Shaughnessy, a native of Yarmouth Port, Mass. and a graduate of Dennis-Yarmouth High School, has been a top defensive specialist for Ratches throughout her career, as she posted seven digs in 10 match appearances in 2013.

“Deb and Lauren are tremendous leaders and ambassadors for our program both on and off the court, and their work ethic is one that I know their teammates will emulate,” Ratches, a 2014 Massachusetts Maritime’s Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, says of her captains.  “They know what is expected of them both as a student and an athlete, and they will continue to set that positive example.”

The Buccaneers begin Ratches’ 11th season at the helm next Thursday, September 4th when Massachusetts Maritime hosts Anna Maria in a non-league match inside the Clean Harbors Athletic Center beginning at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
