CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. --  Freshman Nicole Rice (Woburn, Mass.) notched 13 kills as Curry completed a sweep of a non-league college volleyball tri-match with a 3-0 victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Pine Manor’s Brunelli Court.  The Colonels also collected a 3-0 opening match triumph over the host Gators, who ended the day with a 3-0 win over the Buccaneers in the nightcap.

 

Sophomore Kayla Pedersen (Whitman, Mass.) added eight kills in Curry’s (6-13) 25-10, 25-9, 25-11 sweep of Massachusetts Maritime (0-15), while sophomore Nicole Grambley (North Attleboro, Mass.) added 21 set assists, seven digs, five kills and three service aces for the Colonels, who also received six service aces and five kills from freshman Lauren Hall (Franklin, Mass.).

 

Junior Charleen Klangos (Lowell, Mass.) recorded four kills and three digs in the opening setback for the Buccaneers, who also received three kills from sophomore Meaghan Brain (Hanson, Mass.) and a combined eight set assists and six digs from sophomore Emma Ethier (Norton, Mass.) and freshman Becca Mello (Acushnet, Mass.).

 

Sophomore Susan Le (Lowell, Mass.) registered eight kills and eight digs in Pine Manor’s (5-13) 25-12, 25-14, 25-12 victory over the Buccaneers in the day’s final contest, as the Gators also received eight kills, eight service aces and five digs from senior Destiny Mann (Orlando, Fla.), seven kills from senior Phalonge Pierre (Boston, Mass.) and 20 set assists from freshman Ashley Whiteshield (Seward, Ak.).

 

Brain notched five kills and four digs in the nightcap setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received four kills and three digs from Klangos as well as three kills from senior Deb Langley (Abington, Mass.).  Ethier and Mello combined for nine set assists and 11 digs for the Buccaneers, who also received six digs from sophomore Stephanie O’Connor (Westwood, Mass.).

 

Massachusetts Maritime returns to Chestnut Hill, Mass. on Wednesday evening to take on Pine Manor in a non-league outing that begins at 7:00 p.m., while Curry hosts Saint Joseph (Conn.) in a non-league match on Tuesday evening in Milton, Mass. that also begins at 7:00 p.m.
