Buccaneers Lose to Bears on the Road

BRIDGEWATER, Mass -- Buccaneers women's lacrosse played on the road on Tuesday in conference against Bridgewater State and lost to the Bears 16-5.

Maritime

  • Cassie Llewellyn led the Bucs with three goals in the game.
  • Allie Dickinson and Lindsy Durgin each scored once. 
  • Llewellyn and Durgin both recorded an assist.
  • Durgin led the team in ground balls with three
  • Llewellyn had a game-high eight draw controls.
  • Defensively, the Bucs caused nine turnovers two each from Durgin and Brady Deschamps
  • In total, Maritime picked up 13 ground balls, were successful on 8-of-11 clears, won 11 draw controls, and took 19 total shots in the loss.

Bridgewater

  • Katie O'Brien and Delaney Langton led all scorers with four goals each.
  • Erin McIntyre and Camryn Gonsalves each scored twice.
  • Haley Wood, Meredith Sylvia, Katie Swart, and Hayley Carron all scored once.
  • Langton and Gonsalves each had two assists. Katie Lamonthe, Sylvia, and Katherine Wrona all had one helper.
  • Langton and Bridger Lane led the team with two ground balls each. 
  • Langton led the team in draw controls with five.
  • Defensively, five different players cause a turnover.
  • In total, Bridgewater picked up 12 ground balls, were successful on 11-of-14 clears, won 14 draw controls, and took a total of 30 shots in the win.

How It Happened

Bridgewater opened the game with three straight goals in the first six minutes to take a 3-0 lead. Maritime followed with two goals of their own from Llewellyn and Durgin to bring the score to 3-2. From the 4:35 mark to the 18 second mark of the first quarter the Bears scored five straight and led the Bucs 8-2 after one quarter.

In the second, Bridgewater scored 22 seconds in to extend their scoring streak and then went on to score four more to make the score 13-2 at the 6:50 mark of the second quarter. Llewellyn scored her second at 5:33 on a free position shot to pull within 10, 13-3, going into the half.

Maritime scored the first goal of the second half at 13:09 from Dickinson to make it 13-4. Bridgewater scored the next and final two goals of the third at 10:10 and 5:31 to take a 15-4 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Bears made it 16-4 at 10:34 of the fourth and the Bucs added a final goal from Llewellyn at 1:55 to bring the score to 16-5. That score would go on to be the final of the MASCAC contest.

The Buccaneers are back home on Thursday, April 27th to take on Framingham State in conference play at 7pm.
