Llewellyn Reaches 100 Career Points in Loss to Lancers

WORCESTER, Mass -- Saturday afternoon, the Bucs women's lacrosse team took on Worcester State in Worcester and lost the conference matchup 14-6. In the game, Cassie Llewellyn scored twice and recorded an assist reaching the 100 point milestone for her career in her junior season.

In The Field

Maritime

  • Cassie Llewellyn and Lindsy Durgin each scored twice for Maritime.
  • Grace Calvert and Priscilla Murray each scored once. Murray's goal was the first of her career.
  • Llewellyn, Durgin, and Allie Dickinson were each credite with an assist.
  • Llewellyn led the team in ground balls with five and draw controls with two. 
  • Defensively, Calvert and Brady Deschamps each had a caused turnover.
  • In total, the Buccaneers picked up 26 ground balls, were successful on 11-of-19 clears, won six draw controls, and took 14 total shots.

Worcester

  • Clare Conwaty led all players with five goals scored.
  • Lily Gendron scored three times, Shea Jarvis scored twice, Ashley Hurley, Abigail Vincent, Hannah Erickson, and Emily Pavoni all scored once.
  • Mikayla Fisher led the Lancers with six ground balls and six draw controls. 
  • Defensively, Fisher, Ava Gesner, and Lauren McIntyre each had two caused turnovers.
  • In total, the Lancers Picked up 27 ground balls, were successful on 7-of-8 clears, won 18 draw controls, and took a total of 37 shots.

How It Happened

Worcester controlled the scoring in the first quarter scoring four unanswered. Pavoni scored at 12:59 followed by a Conway goal at 12:12 to make it 2-0. Gendron netted her first at 4:22 and added a second with 40 seconds left in the quarter to give the Lancers a 4-0 lead at the end of one quarter of play.

The Lancers continued scoring to open the second quarter with two more goals, the first from JArvis at 14:10 and the second from Conway at 11:29. Worcester led 6-0 with just over 11 minutes left in the first half. Llewellyn scored her first for the Bucs at 11:03 to erase the shutout and make it 6-1. The Lancers then scored three from 5:25 to 3:54 from Conway, Erickson, and Vincent to make the score 9-1. Llewellyn scored her second at 3:12 for the Bucs second goal of the game. Conway added one more in the quarter at 1:45 giving Worcester a 10-2 lead at the half.

In the third, Worcester netted three goals, the first 29 seconds in from Hurley to make it 11-2. Gendron scored at 12:13 and Jarvis scored at 7:43 to give the Lancers a 13-2 advantage. Durgin closed out the third with a Buccaneers goal at 2:14. The Bucs trailed 13-3 at the end of three.

The Bucs won the scoring battle in the fourth getting a goal from Murray at 11:56, the first of her career, to make it 13-4. Calvert scored at 8:15 on an assist from Llewellyn, her 100th career points, to make it 13-5. Durgin kept it going with another goal at 7:10 to make it 13-6. Then, with 1:33 left in the game Conway scored another to wrap up the win for Worcester, 14-6.
