Bucs Can't Complete Comeback in Loss to Bison

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- Maritime hosted Nichols College in their first of two non-conference games this week on Taylor's Point. While the Bucs scored four goals late, they were unable to complete the comeback losing to the Bison by a final of 11-8.

Maritime

  • Lindsy Durgin led all the Bucs with four goals in the game.
  • Allie Dickinson added three goals.
  • Grace Calvert rounded out the scoring with one score.
  • Cassie Llewellyn and Dickinson each had two assists. Durgin was credited with one.
  • Llewellyn led the Bucs in ground ball pickups with six and in draw controls with four. 
  • Defensively, Llewellyn caused a team-high three turnovers.
  • Calvert and Dickinson each caused two turnovers.
  • In total, the Bucs picked up 19 ground balls, were successful on 18-of-18 clears, won eight draw controls, and took 22 shots.

Nichols

  • Bison leading scorer Hadley Houghton led the game with seven goals.
  • Mackenzie Doran scored twice and Emma Patton and Paige Alexander each scored once. 
  • Houghton led the way for the Bison in ground balls with four and won a game-high nine draw controls.
  • Defensively, Houghton caused a game-high four turnovers.
  • In total, Nichols picked up 18 ground balls, were successful on 14-of-18 clears, won 15 draw controls and took 20 shots.

How It Happened

Nichols scored the first two goals of the game, the first coming 43 seconds in from Houghton. Houghton scored again at 9:31 to put her team ahead 2-0. At the 7:28 mark, Dickinson scored on a power play to cut the deficit in half. 30 seconds later, Houghton scored from a free position shot to give the Bison the lead once again, 3-1, which the score remained for the rest of the first.

In the second, the Bucs opened the scoring on a Durgin goal from Dickinson to pull back within one, 3-2. Nichols scored back-to-back at 12:08 and 7:08 to pull ahead by three, 5-2. Durgin went on to score for Maritime on a power play with 4:05 left in the half. Houghton scored the final goal of the half with 25 seconds remaining, giving the Bison a 6-3 lead at the half.

The third quarter was all Nichols as they scored five in a row after the break. They fifth came with 2:48 left in the quarter and the Bison led 11-3. 48 seconds later with two minutes left in the third, Dickinson drove to the net and scored. The teams went to the fourth with the guests leading, 11-4.

In the fourth, Maritime kept the Bison off the board and started a comeback. They scored four goals in the quarter with the first from Durgin at 10:47, and the last from Dickinson at 1:32. Down four, they were unable to complete the comeback and fell to the Bison by a final of 11-8.
