Women's Lax Loses on the Road to Keene

KEENE, N.H. -- Women's lacrosse traveled to New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon to take on Keene State in a non-conference game against the Owls. Though Keene was coming into the game winless, they scored 11 against the Bucs handing Maritime their third loss of the season, 11-4.

  • Mindy St. Marie scored a game-high three goals.
  • Haile Ratajack, Tess Brown, and Chase Gengras all scored twice.
  • Lola Smith and Kristin Leslie each scored once. 
  • Hannah Dworkin recorded three assists in the win.
  • Brown picked up a team-high five ground balls and won a team-high six draw controls.
  • Defensively, Ratajack, Brown and St. Marie all caused three turnovers.
  • Keene picked up 28 ground balls, were successful on 13-of-20 clears, won eight draw controls and took 34 shots.

 

How It Happened

Keene scored twice in the first four minutes of the game on goals from Brown and St. Marie to go up 2-0 with 11:21 on the clock. Albertson scored on a powerplay to cut the lead in half nine minutes after the second Owls goal at 2:14. Keene closed the first with a third goal to make it 3-1 after one.

In the second, the Owls took off scoring four unanswered to make it five going back to the first. The Bucs didn't score until there was 35 second left in the half on a Durgin free position goal. The teams went to the half with Keene leading Maritime 7-2.

In the third, Keene scored four minutes in to make it 8-2. Calvert scored a free position goal for the Bucs at 8:39 to make it 8-3. Keen followed that with two goals at 7:15 and then at 5:46 to make it 10-3. The Bucs scored on a power play with 2:15 left in the third as Llewellyn scored from Dickinson. The teams went to the final quarter of play with the OWls leading 10-4.

In the fourth, the Owls played stingy defense keeping the Bucs off the board in the final 15 minutes entirely. The hosts scored the only goal of the quarter with 13:26 left from St. Marie to take an 11-4 lead which would go on to be the final of the game.

The Buccaneers are back home for their next game on Tuesday, March 21st against Nichols College at 7pm.
