WORCESTER, Mass. --  Sophomore Amy Tucker (North Attleboro, Mass.) scored five goals, while senior Megan Sheehan (Dunstable, Mass.) and junior Daryl Powell (Beverly, Mass.) each added hat tricks and two assists for five points to lead Worcester State to a 18-8 New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance victory over Massachusetts Maritime Tuesday evening at Coughlin Field.

The host Lancers (1-7, 1-3 NEWLA) scored 11 of the first 12 goals of the contest en route to an 11-2 advantage at the break, as Tucker netted three of those markers in the first 12-plus minutes of play.  Sophomore Michel’le St. Pierre (Seekonk, Mass.) and freshman Jaclyn Lawlor (Westford, Mass.) chipped in with two goals each for Worcester State, which also received a marker and three helpers off the stick of freshman Angela Grassetti (Feeding Hills, Mass.).  Sophomore Vicki O’Brien (Canton, Mass.) added a goal and an assist for the winners, who also received a tally from freshman Samantha Erwin (Attleboro, Mass.) to go with a pair of assists from junior Stacey Doherty (Westford, Mass.) and a helper from freshman Michelle Tully (Tewksbury, Mass.).

Junior Kim Courcy (Warwick, R.I.) notched a hat trick in the setback for the visiting Buccaneers (2-8, 1-3 NEWLA), who scored the first three goals after intermission to creep back to within six at 11-5 but could get no closer.  Junior Briana Bergstrom (Quincy, Mass.) added a pair of tallies for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received single markers off the sticks of seniors Julie Shebroe (Little Falls, N.J.) and Shauna Callinan (West Falmouth, Mass.) as well as sophomore Hillary Doucette (Manchester, Mass.) to go with an assist from junior Anna Whittemore (Weatogue, Conn.).

Senior Haley Erickson (Saugus, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Worcester State with four saves in 42-plus minutes of action, as junior Alexandra Chisholm (Brookfield, Mass.) made three stops over the final 17-plus minutes of play.  Freshman Tenley Gillett (Manchester, N.H.) made 10 saves in net in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime as the Lancers outshot the Buccaneers by a 33-19 margin for the match.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Framingham, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to take on Framingham State in a New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance match that begins at Noon, while Worcester State travels to Providence, R.I. on Thursday to take on Rhode Island College in a non-league outing that begins at 4:00 p.m.
