BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Junior Denise Gates (Feeding Hills, Mass.) netted five goals, while sophomore Taylor Corsano (Bourne, Mass.) added a hat trick and three assists for six points to lead UMass Dartmouth to a 13-3 non-league college women’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Thursday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The visiting Corsairs (2-1) scored the first five goals of the contest in jumping out to a 7-1 advantage at the break that was sparked by Corsano’s hat trick and a pair of markers from Gates, and after the host Buccaneers (0-2) collected the first tally after intermission on junior Kim Courcy’s (Warwick, R.I.) third goal of the season, UMass Dartmouth netted six unanswered tallies, including three by Gates, to ice their triumph.

Freshman Shelby Friedland (New Bedford, Mass.) chipped in with a pair of goals in the win for the Corsairs, who also received a marker and helper each from junior Brittney Enos (East Falmouth, Mass.) and sophomore Michele Winchell (Wilmington, Mass.) as well as a tally off the stick of senior Casey Otovic (Wilmington, Mass.).  Sophomore Hillary Doucette (Manchester, Mass.) collected the other two goals of the contest for Massachusetts Maritime, including her second with 45 seconds remaining in the match to account for the final score.

Junior Angelina Donovan (Medford, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for UMass Dartmouth with a seven-save effort, while freshman Tenley Gillett (Manchester, N.H.) made seven first half stops in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which received four second half saves from junior Shelagh Hogan (North Andover, Mass.).  The Corsairs outshot the Buccaneers by a 28-15 margin and held a 14-4 edge in draw controls for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Daniel Webster in a non-league outing on Monday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while UMass Dartmouth will take on the University of New England on Monday evening in a non-league match that begins at 6:30 p.m.
