BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Senior Morgan Hazen (Woodstock, Vt.) netted five goals and an assist for six points to lead Becker to a 15-11 New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance victory over Massachusetts Maritime Thursday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The visiting Hawks (2-7, 1-0 NEWLA) snapped a 2-2 with five unanswered goals in a 7:50 span, including a pair off the stick of freshman Mindy Moreau (Canterbury, Conn.), to take a 7-2 advantage with 7:17 to play in the opening half.  A pair of free position goals by junior Kim Courcy (Warwick, R.I.) and sophomore Hillary Doucette (Manchester, Mass.) enabled the host Buccaneers (2-6, 1-1 NEWLA) to climb back to within three at 7-4 with 2:07 to play in the half, but sophomore Samantha-Jo Dilkes (Little Falls, N.J.) gave Becker a four-goal cushion at the break by tallying with 14 seconds to play before intermission.  The Hawks scored the first six goals of the second half, including four by Hazen, to build its largest lead of the night at 14-4 with 13:42 to play in the contest, but Massachusetts Maritime scored seven of the final eight markers of the match, including three by Courcy and a pair from fellow junior Sarah Derrane (Utica, N.Y.), to account for the final margin.

Sophomore Ashley Mossey (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) added four goals in the triumph for Becker, which also received a hat trick and an assist from Moreau.  Dilkes chipped in with a pair of markers and two helpers for the Hawks, who also received a goal and two assists off the stick of sophomore Shannon Smith (Barre, Vt.).  Courcy collected five goals and an assist to finish with six points in the setback for the Buccaneers, who also received a pair of goals from Doucette as well as single tallies from seniors Kerri Conway (West Springfield, Mass.) and Julie Shebroe (Little Falls, N.J.).

Freshman Karena Prescott (New Bedford, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Becker with a five-save effort, while freshman Tenley Gillett (Manchester, N.H.) made 15 stops in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime as the Hawks outshot the Buccaneers by a 35-26 margin while holding an 18-10 advantage in draw controls.
