DUDLEY, Mass. -- Senior Krista-Jean Forand (Plymouth, Mass.) netted six goals and an assist for seven points to lead Nichols to a 21-4 non-league college women’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Wednesday evening at Vendetti Field.
The host Bison (1-1) scored seven goals in the opening 4:52 of play to take control of the contest en route to a 13-2 advantage at the break, as freshman Sam MacMillan (Bridgewater, Mass.) added five markers for Nichols, which also received a hat trick and a helper off the stick of freshman Grace Murphy (Montclair, Va.). Freshman Erica Antonison (Albertson, N.Y.) notched a hat trick as well for the Bison, who received a pair of tallies from senior Emily Yourie (Ellington, Conn.) and single markers off the sticks of junior Darcy Russell (Uncasville, Conn.) and freshman Alyssa Bufis (Linden, N.J.). Freshman Stephanie Mathewson (Simsbury, Conn.) posted a pair of assists for the winners, who also received a helper from junior Erica Silvia (Middletown, R.I.).
Sophomore Hillary Doucette (Manchester, Mass.) netted a pair of goals in the setback for the visiting Buccaneers (0-4), who also received tallies from senior Julie Shebroe (Little Falls, N.J.) and junior Kim Courcy (Warwick, R.I.). Freshman Jenn Townsend (Wethersfield, Conn.) picked up her first collegiate win in goal with a pair of saves for Nichols, while freshman Tenley Gillett (Manchester, N.H.) recorded 14 stops in net for Massachusetts Maritime as the Bison outshot the Buccaneers by a 54-9 margin for the match.
Massachusetts Maritime hosts Husson in a non-league outing on Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at Noon, while Nichols heads to Wenham, Mass. to take on Gordon in a Commonwealth Coast Conference clash on Saturday afternoon that begins at 1:00 p.m.
