Doucette Earns Massachusetts Maritime's Second Straight New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance Rookie Of The Week Honor

After capturing its first two victories in varsity play last week, the Massachusetts Maritime women’s lacrosse team garnered a pair of weekly honors from the New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance on Monday afternoon, as freshman goalkeeper Tenley Gillett was named as the league’s Defensive Player of the Week while sophomore attack Hillary Doucette was tabbed as the conference’s Rookie of the Week.

Gillett, a native of Manchester, N.H. and a graduate of Culver Academy, recorded 33 total saves on the week for the Buccaneers, including a career-high 17 stops in Massachusetts Maritime’s 18-16 come-from-behind triumph at Wheelock last Thursday evening.  Gillett made 13 of those saves in the second half to help the visitors overcome a four-goal deficit, and she added 16 saves and a career-best .727 saves percentage in a 9-6 victory at Elms last Saturday afternoon in the Bucs’ NEWLA opener.

Doucette, a native of Manchester, Mass. and a graduate of Manchester-Essex High School, netted a career and program-best eight goals and nine points in Massachusetts Maritime’s history-making victory at Wheelock, and she followed that up with a hat trick in the Buccaneers’ league lid-lifter at Elms to finish with 11 goals and an assist for 12 points on the week.  Doucette earned Massachusetts Maritime’s second straight NEWLA Rookie of the Week accolade, as junior midfielder Kim Courcy (Warwick, R.I./Warwick) captured that same honor on March 26th.

The Buccaneers seek their third straight victory under the guidance of Head Coach Julie Rigo on Thursday evening when Massachusetts Maritime hosts Becker in a NEWLA clash at Clean Harbors Stadium that begins at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
