Stoll, Dexter Guide Offshore Sailing To Fifth Place Finish At Prestigious Navy Shields Trophy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. --  The Massachusetts Maritime offshore sailing team recorded a solid fifth place overall finish in the prestigious Navy Shields Trophy over the weekend, as junior Priscilla Stoll (Pocasset, Mass.) had the honor of being the first Buccaneer female cadet to serve as helmsman during the competition.

 

Massachusetts Maritime finished just three points out of third place in the event, which was won by the host Midshipmen.  California Maritime finished as the runner-up in the final team standings, while Merchant Marine and SUNY-Maritime edged the Buccaneers in third and fourth place.  Massachusetts Maritime bested Maine Maritime, Coast Guard and the United States Military Academy in competition.

 

Stoll part of a crew that consisted of senior skipper Timothy Dexter (Manchester, Vt.) and fellow seniors Travis Thonus (East Dennis, Mass.) and Andrew Gregoire (Charlotte, N.C.) as well as juniors Charles Cahill (Duxbury, Mass.), Sean McLaughlin (Fairhaven, Mass.), Andrew Morgan (Jupiter, Fla.), Matthew Ferlotti (Fairfax, Va.) and Frederik Holm (Pittsburgh, Pa.).

 

Massachusetts Maritime will host the Commonwealth Invitational this weekend at Great Herring Pond while also competing at the New Hampshire Chris Loder Trophy and the Rhode Island Salt Pond Invitational.
