Sailing Takes Top Honors At Coast Guard Colgate Cup

NEW LONDON, Conn. --  The Massachusetts Maritime sailing team took top honors over the weekend at the Coast Guard Colgate Cup that took place on the Thames River, as the Buccaneers were able to navigate tricky conditions throughout the weekend’s competition.

 

Juniors Sean McLaughlin (Fairhaven, Mass.) and Charles Cahill (Duxbury, Mass.), along with sophomore Rob Queisser (Carmel, Ind.) and freshmen Emily Casella (Little Egg Harbor, N.J.) and Ryan Novak-Smith (Johnston, R.I.), comprised Massachusetts Maritime’s squad in the event, as they combined to score 20 points with consistent top four finishes throughout the weekend.  Tufts finished in the runner-up spot with 24 points, while Coast Guard placed third with 33 points.

 

The Buccaneers are scheduled to host the Great Herring Pond Open at the Keith Hartford Sailing Center next Saturday and Sunday, with action beginning at 9:30 a.m. each day.
