Alumni Stadium, Worcester, Mass.

FINAL:              WPI 2, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 0

WORCESTER, Mass. --  First half goals by junior Brendan Nemes (Kingston, Mass.) and sophomore Spencer Ralphs (Simsbury, Mass.) lifted WPI to a 2-0 non-league college men’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.

Nemes gave the host Engineers (4-0) the only tally they would need just 12:03 into the contest on a feed from fellow junior Reese Petersen (Springfield, N.J.), and Ralphs added an insurance marker in the 35th minute on a pass from freshman Matt Mulligan (Hebron, Conn.) to account for the final margin.  Junior Connor Hoeckele (Granby, Conn.) made that stand up in goal for WPI, as he made four saves to earn his third win and second shutout of the season.

Sophomore Connor Murphy (Mashpee, Mass.) made a pair of first half saves in suffering the setback in net for the visiting Buccaneers (2-1), who received a second half stop in goal from junior Mike Pruchnik (Rochester, Mass.).  WPI outshot Massachusetts Maritime by a 14-13 margin overall (5-4 on goal), as the Buccaneers took six of the eight corner kicks on the afternoon.

Massachusetts Maritime travels to Dudley, Mass. on Wednesday afternoon to take on Nichols in a non-league match that begins at 4:00 p.m., while WPI hosts ninth-ranked Brandeis in a non-league clash on Wednesday evening at Alumni Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m.
