FINAL:              MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 6, ANNA MARIA 1

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Sophomores Zach O’Neil (Scituate, Mass.) and Brendan Gawron (Braintree, Mass.) each netted a pair of goals to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 6-1 non-league college men’s soccer victory over Anna Maria Wednesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The host Buccaneers (4-2) overcame an early 1-0 deficit to even matters in the 24th minute on junior Mick Rouette’s (Three Rivers, Mass.) marker, and O’Neil provided the eventual game-winning tally in the 39th minute on a feed from freshman Justin Le (Springfield, Mass.) to stake Massachusetts Maritime to a 2-1 edge at the break.  Gawron collected both of his goals in the opening 8:43 after intermission to extend the hosts’ advantage to 4-1, and respective markers by O’Neil and sophomore William Taylor (Hanover, Mass.) in the 69th and 79th minutes of play accounted for the final margin.

Le assisted on both of O’Neil’s goals in the triumph for the Buccaneers, who also received helpers from juniors Kevin O’Leary (Norton, Mass.) and Chris Beaulieu (Carver, Mass.) along with freshman Nick Kubacki (Belchertown, Mass.).  Freshman Gift Kalombo (Worcester, Mass.) had given the visiting Amcats (1-5) the early lead when he converted a feed from senior Christopher Mattioli (Sturbridge, Mass.) on a breakaway 13:53 into the contest, but that would prove to be the only shot on goal for Anna Maria in the match.

Junior Mike Pruchnik (Rochester, Mass.), the reigning Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week, improved to 3-0 on the season without having to make a save over the first 71-plus minutes of play for Massachusetts Maritime, which received a clean sheet over the final 18 minutes of action from sophomore James Barbour (Lanexa, Va.).  Freshman Troy Repekta (Dudley, Mass.) made five first half stops in the setback for the Amcats, which received a second half save from fellow freshman Diego Torres (South Yarmouth, Mass.).  The Buccaneers outshot Anna Maria by a 20-4 margin overall (12-1 on goal) and took 11 of the 12 corner kicks on the evening.
