Wayrynen Named As MASCAC Men's Soccer Rookie Of The Week

Massachusetts Maritime freshmen Andrew Wayrynen and Daniel Plumb were named as the respective Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer and Men’s Cross Country Rookies of the Week on Monday afternoon for their performances for the Buccaneers over the weekend.

Wayrynen, a native of Rockport, Mass. and a graduate of Rockport High School, made his first collegiate goal stand up as the game-winner in last Saturday’s 3-1 MASCAC victory at Salem State, as Head Coach Greg Perry’s squad is tied for the top spot in the conference standings with MCLA at 2-0-1.  Andrew is the second Massachusetts Maritime freshman to earn MASCAC Rookie of the Week accolades, as teammate Adam Crawford (Kingston, Mass./Silver Lake) claimed the honor on September 12th.

Plumb, a native of Hopkinton, Mass. and a graduate of Hopkinton High School, notched a fourth place individual finish for Head Coach Chris Slattery’s Buccaneers at the 12th Annual Travis Fuller Invitational last Saturday afternoon.  Daniel posted a time of 24:14 over the 7K layout alongside the Cape Cod Canal in helping Massachusetts Maritime claim its third straight team title in the event.

The Buccaneer men’s soccer team, which stands at 5-3-1 overall, hosts UMass Dartmouth in a non-league outing at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m. EDT, while the Buccaneer men’s cross country team is back in action on Saturday afternoon at the Westfield State James Earley Invitational that begins at Noon EDT at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass.
