FINAL: COAST GUARD 2, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 0
NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Sophomore Patrick Palermo-Re (Manassas, Va.) netted a pair of first half goals to lead Coast Guard to a 2-0 non-league college men’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Tuesday evening at Nitchman Field.
Palermo-Re’s unassisted tally just 10:05 into the contest provided the host Bears (9-3-2) the only goal they would need on the night, and he converted a feed from fellow sophomore Alex Hall (Merritt Island, Fla.) 6:46 later to account for the final score. Junior Jake Sorenson (Oakdale, Conn.) made that stand up in net for Coast Guard, as he made a pair of saves to notch his fifth win and fifth shutout of the season.
Junior Mike Pruchnik (Rochester, Mass.) suffered the setback in goal for the visiting Buccaneers (6-7-1) in making one first half stop, while sophomore Connor Murphy (Mashpee, Mass.) added one save in the final 45 minutes of action. The Bears outshot Massachusetts Maritime by a 9-6 margin overall (4-2 on goal), but the Buccaneers took two of the three corner kicks on the evening.
Massachusetts Maritime heads to Framingham, Mass. on Saturday morning to take on Framingham State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference clash that begins at 11:00 a.m., while Coast Guard entertains Wheaton in a New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference outing on Saturday afternoon at Nitchman Field beginning at 2:00 p.m.
