FINAL:              MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 1, BRIDGEWATER STATE 1 (DOUBLE OVERTIME)

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Sophomore Brendan Gawron’s (Braintree, Mass.) goal with 7:39 remaining in regulation lifted Massachusetts Maritime to a 1-1 double overtime draw with Bridgewater State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s soccer match played Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium.

Gawron’s tying tally (his fifth of the season) came on a scramble in front of the net for the host Buccaneers (4-2-1, 1-0-1 MASCAC), who extended their unbeaten streak to three straight (2-0-1) with the tie.  The visiting Bears (2-4-1, 0-1-1 MASCAC) had taken a 1-0 lead in the 62nd minute when sophomore Jameson Bradley (Westboro, Mass.) converted a feed from freshman James Fisher (Longmeadow, Mass.) for his first marker of the fall to set up Gawron’s equalizer, and Massachusetts Maritime had the better chances in the extra sessions in collecting four of the five shots taken in the overtime periods.

Junior Mike Pruchnik (Rochester, Mass.) made four saves in the draw for the Buccaneers, while senior Colin Jepson (Sandwich, Mass.) made eight stops on the day for Bridgewater State.  Massachusetts Maritime outshot the Bears by a 17-7 margin overall (9-5 on goal) and took all nine corner kicks in the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Newport, R.I. on Wednesday afternoon for a non-league match with Salve Regina that begins at 3:30 p.m., while Bridgewater State hosts UMass Boston in a non-league outing on Wednesday evening in Bridgewater, Mass. beginning at 7:00 p.m.
