Crawford Named As MASCAC Men's Soccer Rookie Of The Week
Massachusetts Maritime sophomore forward Madison Taylor was named as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week on Monday afternoon for her efforts in a pair of victories last week, while Buccaneer freshman midfielder Adam Crawford was tabbed as the MASCAC Men’s Soccer Rookie of the Week for his performance in a pair of matches.
Taylor, a native of Longmeadow, Mass. and a graduate of Longmeadow High School, netted four goals and a pair of assists for 10 points last week, including her first career hat trick and an assist in Massachusetts Maritime’s 6-1 triumph at SUNY-Maritime last Saturday afternoon. Madison added a marker and helper in the Buccaneers’ 5-1 victory at Daniel Webster last Tuesday, as she leads Head Coach Ray Cabral’s squad in scoring for a second straight season with five goals and two assists for 12 points, which is three shy of her team-leading 15 point total as a rookie in 2015.
Taylor’s honor marks the second straight MASCAC award that Massachusetts Maritime has garnered in the early going, as freshman goalkeeper Sarah Coffey (Norton, Mass./Coyle-Cassidy) was last week’s conference Rookie of the Week.
Cabral’s Buccaneers are off to the best start in the program’s nine-year varsity history at 3-1 overall, as Massachusetts Maritime has won three straight matches that includes a 2-0 home opening win over Anna Maria back on September 3rd at Clean Harbors Stadium. The Buccaneers look to extend that winning streak to four straight on Tuesday evening by heading into Boston to battle Wheelock in a non-league clash that begins at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
Crawford, a native of Kingston, Mass. and a graduate of Silver Lake Regional High School, collected his second game-winning assist of the season last Wednesday evening when he provided the helper on the deciding goal with 1:02 to play in Massachusetts Maritime’s 2-1 non-league triumph at Wentworth. Adam also notched the game-winning assist in his first collegiate contest back on September 1st in a 3-0 season-opening victory over Becker at Clean Harbors Stadium.
Head Coach Greg Perry’s men’s squad, which stands at 2-1 early on in its 2016 slate, continues a four-match road trip on Wednesday afternoon when Massachusetts Maritime heads to Dudley, Mass. to take on Nichols in a non-league clash beginning at 4:00 p.m. EDT.
