Matoian, McCarthy & McDonough Named As 2016 Men's Soccer Tri-Captains

The Massachusetts Maritime men’s soccer team has always prided itself on stellar achievement both on and off the field, and as the Buccaneers look to earn their fourth straight post-season berth this fall, veteran Head Coach Greg Perry has named a trio of seniors to serve as team captains and continue that solid tradition in his 24th campaign at the helm.

Seniors Scott Matoian (Mashpee, Mass./Mashpee), Thomas McCarthy (Tybee Island, Ga./Benedictine Military) and Matthew McDonough (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) have been tabbed by Perry to serve in the leadership role as Massachusetts Maritime’s tri-captains, as the three are described by their coach as “consistent leaders who have embraced the high expectations of this program from the beginning.  They command respect with their performances on the field and their actions in the campus community—they aren’t just great players, they are great people, and their character truly represents what this team has always stood for.”

McDonough has earned back-to-back all-Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference honors as one of the top defensive backs in the league over the last two seasons, while McCarthy is the Buccaneers’ top returning scorer from a year ago when he notched six goals and an assist for 13 points.  Matoian has also been a consistent defender during his career, as he chipped in with three assists on the offensive side of the ball while starting 14 of 15 matches played in 2015.

Perry’s crew begins the 2016 season on Thursday, September 1st when Massachusetts Maritime entertains Becker in a non-league outing at Clean Harbors Stadium that kicks off at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
