Alumni Field, Westfield, Mass.

FINAL:              WESTFIELD STATE 2, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 1 (OVERTIME)

WESTFIELD, Mass. --  Junior Zack Horn’s (Carver, Mass.) goal 8:39 into overtime lifted Westfield State to a 2-1 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday evening at Alumni Field.

Horn converted a feed from senior Dom Cavallini (Springfield, Mass.) on the golden goal for the host Owls (2-7-1, 1-2 MASCAC), who grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute when freshman Connor Gilbert (Melrose, Mass.) took a pass from fellow freshman Kieran Moriarty (West Springfield, Mass.).  That tally held up until the waning moments of regulation when senior Stuart Kinsman (Granville, Mass.) evened matters for the visiting Buccaneers (5-4, 2-1 MASCAC) with his third marker of the fall on a feed from freshman Michael Rouette (Three Rivers, Mass.), and he nearly netted the game-winner on a header early in the extra session prior to Horn’s heroics.

Senior Keith Hevey (Chicopee, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Westfield State with a four-save effort, while sophomore Joe Cohen (Plymouth, Mass.) made three stops in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, as the Buccaneers (who have suffered three of their four losses on the year in overtime) outshot the Owls by a 22-11 margin for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts UMass Dartmouth in a non-league outing on Tuesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Westfield State heads to Beverly, Mass. on Wednesday evening to take on Endicott in a non-league match that also begins at 7:00 p.m.
