Kurylak, Klose & Anderson Tabbed As 2016 Buccaneer Men's Lacrosse Tri-Captains

The start of the 2016 Massachusetts Maritime men’s lacrosse season is just over a month away, and as Head Coach Rory Deegan continues preparations for his sixth season at the program’s helm, he today announced that seniors Anthony Kurylak and James Klose, along with junior Steven Anderson, will serve as tri-captains for the Buccaneers this spring.

Kurylak, a native of Exeter, N.H. and a graduate of Portsmouth High School, will serve as a team captain for the second straight season after leading Massachusetts Maritime in scoring with 28 goals and three assists for 31 points a year ago from the midfield spot.  Kurylak was named as the New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week last March 16th after collecting 12 goals and three assists for 15 points in four Buccaneer victories, including a 10-9 double overtime triumph at SUNY-Maritime in the title match of the Maritime Lacrosse Classic.  Anthony enters his final collegiate campaign with 58 goals and 18 assists for 76 career points in 44 contests played.

Klose, a native of Ellicott City, Md. and a graduate of Mount Saint Joseph High School, returns as Deegan’s starting goalie this spring after posting five wins while making 177 saves in 15 matches played in 2015, including a career-high 20 stops at Babson last April 11th.  Klose has also been a standout in the classroom throughout his career, as he holds a 3.807 cumulative grade point average as a Marine Engineering major at the Academy while earning spots on the NEWMAC and Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Academic squads as well as both the Pilgrim Lacrosse League and Massachusetts Maritime Athletic Director’s honor rolls.

Anderson, a native of Crownsville, Md. and a graduate of Annapolis Area Christian High, tied for fourth on the Buccaneer scoring list with 14 goals and five assists for 19 points in the midfield, including three points in a 16-8 Admiral’s Cup victory over Maine Maritime last March 14th.  He has collected 18 goals and seven assists for 25 points in two seasons to date while starting 12 of 28 matches played during that time.  Steven has also excelled in the classroom in earning spots on the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference squad, the MASCAC Spring All-Academic Team and the Massachusetts Maritime Athletic Director’s Honor Roll, as he holds a 3.528 cumulative GPA as a Marine Engineering major.

“All three captains have demonstrated great commitment, integrity and passion to help this program continue to grow and succeed, and I know they will continue to work and set the example of hard work for their teammates,” Deegan, a former standout at Division I Manhattan, said of his leadership trio.  “They know the challenges and goals that they will face during the upcoming season, and they are looking forward to not only meeting them, but exceeding them.”

Massachusetts Maritime begins its 2016 slate on Saturday, March 5th by hosting Albertus Magnus in a non-league outing at Clean Harbors Stadium at 2:00 p.m. EST.
