Powers, Bartley Each Collect Four Points To Lift Men's Lacrosse To 11-3 Non-League Victory Over Anna Maria

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Sophomore Keaghan Bartley (Richmond, Va.) and freshman Ted Powers (Marshfield, Mass.) each netted hat tricks and added assists for four points to lead Massachusetts Maritime to an 11-3 non-league college men’s lacrosse victory over Anna Maria Saturday morning at Clean Harbors Stadium.

 

The host Buccaneers (4-2) jumped out to a 4-2 first quarter lead and extended that margin with four unanswered tallies in the second stanza, including two off the stick of Bartley, to take control of the contest with an 8-2 advantage at the break.  Powers netted two of Massachusetts Maritime’s three second half markers, as the hosts controlled the middle by winning 14 of 18 faceoffs and forcing 33 turnovers on the day.

 

Freshman Zack O’Brien (Lakeville, Mass.) chipped in with a pair of goals and two assists for four points in the triumph for the Buccaneers, who also received a tally and two helpers off the stick of freshman Cody Livermore (Ludlow, Mass.).  Junior Steven Anderson (Crownsville, Md.) and freshman Brendan Kelly (Drexel Hill, Pa.) also collected goals for Massachusetts Maritime, which received single assists from juniors Kevin Collins (Hampden, Mass.), Joseph Landy (Chatham, N.J.) and Ryan McNeill (Burlington, Mass.).

 

Senior Alex Rezendes (Nantucket, Mass.) accounted for all three goals with a hat trick in the setback for the visiting Amcats (1-4), as freshman Jeffrey Statile (Ipswich, Mass.) earned his first career victory in goal with two first half saves for Massachusetts Maritime.  Fellow freshman Michael Dolan (McLean, Va.) made four second half stops for the Buccaneers, while freshman Paul Schwarz (Staten Island, N.Y.) made 22 saves in the setback for Anna Maria.  Massachusetts Maritime held a 41-13 overall advantage in shots for the contest in claiming its fourth straight win in the series with Anna Maria.

 

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Salem State in a non-league outing on Tuesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Anna Maria entertains Western Connecticut in a non-league match on Tuesday afternoon in Paxton, Mass. that begins at 5:00 p.m.
