BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Sophomore Tom Hurley (Goffstown, N.H.) netted eight goals, while senior Dylan Sheehan (Massapequa, N.Y.) added a hat trick and six assists for nine points to lead Springfield to an 18-6 New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium.

 

The visiting Pride (4-6, 2-0 NEWMAC) used a pair of five goal runs in the opening 30 minutes of play to build a 12-2 advantage at the break, and Springfield iced its triumph with five more unanswered tallies (including three off the stick of Hurley) in the first 9:15 after intermission to increased that margin to 17-2.  Senior Kevin Dean (Westhampton, N.Y.) collected five markers and an assist to finish with six points on the day for the visitors, who also received a goal and assist from junior Brendan Dooley (Setauket, N.Y.) and a single tally off the stick of junior Phillip Dumont (Watertown, Mass.).  Juniors Dom Abate (Beverly, Mass.), Tim Cozens (Ridgefield, Conn.) and Ty Daugstrup (Rocky River, Ohio) notched two helpers each for the Pride, who also received single assists from seniors Ben Menard (South Hadley, Mass.) and Jake Versprille (Franklin, Mass.) as well as sophomore Kyle Dillon (Mahopac, N.Y.).

 

Freshmen Cody Livermore (Ludlow, Mass.) and Jake O’Riordan (Marshfield, Mass.) each scored a pair of goals in the setback for the host Buccaneers (5-6, 1-1 NEWMAC), who also received a tally and two helpers from senior Reed McLean (Wilbraham, Mass.) as well as a goal and assist from sophomore Keaghan Bartley (Richmond, Va.).  Junior Ryan McNeill (Burlington, Mass.) collected a pair of assists for Massachusetts Maritime, which received a single helper off the stick of junior Steven Anderson (Crownsville, Md.).

 

Sophomore Jake Reynolds (Scituate, Mass.) picked up his second win of the season with 11 first half saves in goal for Springfield, which received a combined five second half stops from junior Chris Santaniello (West Springfield, Mass.) and freshman Greg Macchi (Hastings-On-Hudson, N.Y.).  Senior James Klose (Ellicott City, Md.) made 14 saves in nearly 54 minutes of action in net for Massachusetts Maritime, which received one stop over the final 6:14 of play from freshman Michael Dolan (McLean, Va.).  The Pride outshot the Buccaneers by a 48-28 margin overall (33-22 on goal) and forced 26 turnovers for the contest.

 

Massachusetts Maritime hosts UMass Dartmouth in a non-league contest on Wednesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Springfield hosts Middlebury in a non-league outing on Wednesday afternoon in Springfield, Mass. that begins at 5:00 p.m.
