NEW LONDON, Conn./PROVIDENCE, R.I. --  The Massachusetts Maritime dinghy sailing team competed at both the Coast Guard Nickerson Trophy and the Providence Fall Invitational, as both events were halted early in advance of the effects of Hurricane Sandy on the region.

Sophomores Priscilla Stoll (Pocasset, Mass.), Camille Aiello (Hamden, Conn.), Charles Cahill (Duxbury, Mass.) and Matthew Ferlotti (Fairfax, Va.), along with freshmen Karl Ryder, Brandon Deal (Mansfield, Mass.) and Francis Dougherty (Cataumet, Mass.), competed for the Buccaneers at Providence in both divisions, and the tandem combined to post a 10th place overall finish in the event.

At Coast Guard, Ryder and freshmen Alexander Hunt (Baltimore, Md.), Robert Queisser (Carmel, Ind.) and Ryan Davis (North Falmouth, Mass.) participated in a competitive field of 19 schools from around the country, as Massachusetts Maritime placed 16th overall in the event and bested rival Maine Maritime.

The Buccaneer offshore sailing team heads to Annapolis, Md. next weekend to compete at the prestigious Navy John F. Kennedy Cup, which is the national championship event of the offshore season.
