Admiral Alymer’s Trophy/Coast Guard Kruger Cup

BOURNE, Mass./NEW LONDON, Conn. --  Both the Massachusetts Maritime dinghy and offshore sailing teams recorded a solid finishes during weekend competition at the 28th Annual Admiral Alymer’s Trophy at the Keith Hartford Sailing Center as well as the Coast Guard Kruger Cup on the Thames River.

 

The Buccaneers posted overall performances of fourth and 10th place in dinghy competition in the Admiral Alymer’s Trophy on Great Herring Pond, as the quartet of junior Kaitlyn Nanartowich (Newport, R.I.) and sophomores Priscilla Stoll (Pocasset, Mass.), Andrew Morgan (Jupiter, Fla.) and Camille Aiello (Hamden, Conn.) notched the fourth place performance with 117 points.  The second team tandem of sophomores Charles Cahill (Duxbury, Mass.) and Matthew Charpentier (Lunenburg, Mass.), along with freshmen Francis Dougherty (Cataumet, Mass.) and Ryan Davis (North Falmouth, Mass.) edged out Maine Maritime for 10th place overall with 219 points, as Tufts took top honors in the event with a score of 42 points on the weekend.

 

Senior Michael Reney (Duxbury, Mass.), along with sophomores Daniel Barry (Dartmouth, Mass.) and Sean McLaughlin (Fairhaven, Mass.) and freshman Leah Saunders (Rochester, Mass.), raced in breezy and cold conditions at the Kruger Cup on Saturday before warmer conditions prevailed on the second day of competition.  The Buccaneer quartet finished ninth overall in the event, just six points out of seventh place, and edged out Mitchell for their spot.

 

Massachusetts Maritime will compete at both the Yale Short Beach Invitational and Boston University Oberg Trophy next weekend beginning at 9:30 a.m.
