FINAL:              WESTFIELD STATE 5, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 0

WESTFIELD, Mass. --  Senior Ashley Bovat (Westfield, Mass.) netted a goal and an assist to lead Westfield State to a 5-0 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday evening at Alumni Field.

Freshman Lexi Kulik (Granby, Conn.) gave the host Owls (9-6-2, 5-1-1 MASCAC) the only goal they would need in the 21st minute with an unassisted tally, and Bovat extended that margin to 2-0 less than four minutes later on a feed from freshman Caitlin MacGregor (Hampden, Mass.) before setting up freshman Lauren Farrell (Rockland, Mass.) in the 38th minute of action.  Freshman Kayla Murphy (Hampden, Mass.) staked Westfield State to a 4-0 advantage at the break with an unassisted marker that came 1:19 before intermission, and sophomore Michaela St. Cyr (Saugus, Mass.) closed out the hosts’ scoring with an unassisted goal in the 76th minute to account for the final margin.

Junior Anne Stack (East Longmeadow, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for the Owls without having to make a first half save, while senior Katie Levesque (Wilmot, N.H.) closed out her career with an 11 save effort in the setback for the visiting Buccaneers (4-11, 0-7 MASCAC), as Levesque made 620 stops in 60 matches played over the last four seasons.  Westfield State outshot Massachusetts Maritime by a 30-2 margin overall (including all 16 shots on goal for the night) and took nine of the 10 corner kicks in the contest.

Westfield State is seeded second in the upcoming MASCAC Championships, as the Owls will host the winner of Tuesday’s Bridgewater State-MCLA quarterfinal round contest in semifinal round play next Friday evening at Alumni Field.  Tonight’s match marked the final 2015 contest for Massachusetts Maritime, which matched the school single-season record for victories in its eight-year varsity history.
