FINAL:              FITCHBURG STATE 3, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 0

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Junior Samantha Zina (Abington, Mass.) netted a goal and an assist to lead Fitchburg State to a 3-0 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Tuesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

Sophomore Siobhan O’Connell (Abington, Mass.) gave the visiting Falcons (3-13-1, 1-4-1 MASCAC) the only goal they would need in the 30th minute of play when her header off a Zina corner found the back left side of the net for her second tally of the season, and Fitchburg State extended that margin to 2-0 just 32 seconds after intermission when freshman Madison Medina (Pelham, N.H.) converted a rebound of junior Victoria Floeck’s (East Taunton, Mass.) shot for her first collegiate marker.  Zina closed out the visitors’ scoring in the 77th minute of action, as she took a feed from sophomore Amanda Gage (Tyngsboro, Mass.) and broke in from the left side for her second goal of the year that accounted for the final margin.

Junior Morgan Steele (Somerset, Mass.) picked up her third win of the season in goal by making a pair of saves over 86-plus minutes of play for Fitchburg State, while senior Katie Levesque (Wilmot, N.H.) made 13 stops in the setback for the host Buccaneers (4-10, 0-6 MASCAC).  The Falcons outshot Massachusetts Maritime by a 21-4 margin overall (16-2 on goal) and held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime closes out its regular season slate on Saturday evening by heading to Westfield, Mass. to take on Westfield State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference outing beginning at 6:00 p.m., while Fitchburg State travels to Salem, Mass. on Friday evening to square off with Salem State in its MASCAC regular season finale that also begins at 6:00 p.m.
