Sailing Records Pair Of Top Four Finishes At Storm Trysail Regatta

The Massachusetts Maritime offshore sailing team recorded a pair of top four finishes at the world’s largest sailing event over Columbus Day, the Storm Trysail Regatta which took place at the Larchmont Yacht Club on western Long Island Sound.

The Buccaneers posted a third place finish in the J/109 class aboard MMA Sailing Foundation Trustee Rick Lyall’s ’79 “Storm”, as junior Michael Reney (Duxbury, Mass.) the vessel and joined the tandem of seniors Jason Pollock (Cataumet, Mass.), Jeffrey Gawrys (Marblehead, Mass.), Robert Pierce (Natick, Mass.) and Jesse Malmgren (Franklin, Mass.), junior Nathaniel Olsen (East Dennis, Mass.), sophomore Mikayla Martin (Warwick, R.I.) and Samuel Fowler.

Massachusetts Maritime placed fourth overall aboard “Vamp” in the J/44 class, as senior Graham Philpot (Laconia, N.H.) skippered the vessel with the tandem of seniors Eric Pattison (Woodbury, Conn.), Bradley Shepherd (Winter Park, Fla.) and Kyle Scannell (Tierra Verde, Fla.), sophomores Kyle Mahaffey (Southbury, Conn.), Timothy Dexter (Manchester, Vt.) and Travis Thonus (East Dennis, Mass.) and freshmen Marshall Bailey (West Dover, Vt.), Sean McLaughlin (Fairhaven, Mass.) and Danielle Soar (Templeton, Mass.).
